New treatment for chronic tendon pain and plantar fasciitis
Tenex Health TX™ is supported by cutting-edge research developed by the Mayo Clinic to solve chronic, unresponsive tendon pain, which until now was lacking a definitive medical solution. Performance Ortho has partnered with Tenex Health TX™ to offer this minimally invasive technology designed to precisely identify, remove and extract damaged tendon tissue. Since Tenex Health TX™ only removes diseased tissue, while preserving healthy tissue, the patient experiences rapid pain relief and return to an active lifestyle much quicker than with traditional orthopedic surgical procedures.
Understanding Chronic Tendon Pain
The vast majority of patients with tendonitis or plantar fasciitis will experience improvement with rest and anti-inflammatory medications. Some may need additional treatments of cortisone injection and/or physical therapy for resolution. However, if the pain and lifestyle restrictions persist beyond three months and are unresponsive to conservative interventions, you are likely suffering from chronic tendon disease. Chronic means that scar tissue has formed in the tendon, which is more pain sensitive than healthy tissue, and it is preventing normal muscle movement and function. Until recently, surgery was the only medically accepted option for unresponsive chronic tendon disease. Due to unpredictable outcomes, many orthopedic surgeons will perform surgery as a last resort on a limited number of very advanced conditions. Unfortunately, this results in an entire population of patients that are referred to as the “silent sufferers”, having failed conservative treatments, but are not surgical candidates. This is why Tenex Health TX™ was created.
We have experienced excellent outcomes utilizing Tenex Health TX™ for the following conditions:
- Tennis Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
- Golfer’s Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Jumper’s Knee (Patellar Tendonitis)
- Shoulder Tendonitis (Rotator Cuff)
The Tenex Procedure for Treatment
The procedure involves using ultrasound imaging technology which is the same kind used to see babies in the womb. This helps the doctor identify the specific location of your damaged tissue. The physician then creates a micro-incision at the injured site and inserts the Tenex Health TX™ MicroTip, which is the size of a tooth pick. The Tenex Health TX™ MicroTip uses ultrasonic energy to precisely remove only the damaged tissue, breaking it down without removing or hurting any healthy tissue. The benefits of Tenex Health TX™ are:
- Quick pain relief
- Rapid return to normal activity
- Local anesthetic used instead of general anesthesia
- No sutures or stitches
- Minimally invasive, not open surgery
- Covered by most insurances
Performance Ortho utilizes an all-encompassing interdisciplinary team approach to treatment unlike any other medical practice in the area. In some cases, the patient will also receive Regenerative Injection Therapy (Stem Cells or Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy) in conjunction with Tenex TX™ for a more comprehensive result. Patients are also encouraged to proceed with physical therapy after the procedure(s) to strengthen and regain normal motion, which is necessary to return to full activity. This treatment protocol will last 4 – 8 weeks depending on the severity of your condition. It is imperative that you follow the treatment guidelines as we have found less satisfactory results when there is a deviation from the treatment plan.
